Lights, Camera, Take Action.

If I’m being totally honest with myself, I have so many flaws. Some I work on and others I’m recently learning I have. Tis life, right? For example, letting go has kinda been a problem for me, and not a small one 😳. I’ve also had issues with not believing red flags when I see them, trying to force myself to think they’re maroon instead.

These are just a couple of the “blemishes” I’ve wanted to fix. & I’ve consciously worked on improving them… Even still, it’s taken me quite a while to get to that point – the point when you can’t just stay aware of your flaws. The moment when you have no choice but to act on them. I’m sure we’ve all said a million times that we are working on ourselves or improving our flaws. But, there is a huge difference between saying it, and consciously making those changes. In the spirit of sisterhood, let me lay out some of the distinctions for you –

Saying You’re Changing:

  • You feel that something could be better in your life. There is a flaw that you honestly want to make improvements on.
  • You know the actions required to make the changes you want to see.
  • You may or may not take some of the steps you know could be of benefit.

But when you CONSCIOUSLY work on yourself, a couple of things are different:

  • You still feel something could be better, except the flaw you want to improve on becomes a NEED to improve.
  • You still know the actions you can take, but you actually make a plan to bring those actions to life.
  • You make the changes! Not only in your actions, but your mindset as well.

So, the million dollar question – How do you get to that point? Where you have to make changes? Well sis, you have two extremely simple options:

  1. Keep experiencing let downs, until you can’t go down any further. ⇓
  2. Learn from yourself & others.

I’d recommend the latter of the two. Trust me on this one…Because when you allow yourself to get to your lowest, it’s a much harder journey back up. & I know I’m not the only one tiiiired of taking the long route all the time. I’ve done enough sight-seeing! Just get me to my destination lbs.

Now, before I get completely off topic… Another key difference between talking about change and making conscious change is your mind. At one point I wanted to lose weight, so I started going to the gym and eating a little bit better. The problem was, since I didn’t change my mind first, I didn’t stick to it. Sooo, the changes I made were very short-lived – I’m embarrassed to say how short lol.

Don’t get me wrong though, acknowledging that you have something to work on is the first & hardest step – it takes a lot of self-reflection and courage! But we have got to stop letting the journey end there. So many times I’ve been proud of myself for just admitting I had something to work on. Since I gave myself the hero cookie for only saying it, I lost the motivation to actually complete the work. If you don’t want to face the same giant for a second round (…I’m working on weight again 🤦🏾‍♀️ ) then your mind HAS to change before the problem can.

The amazing part is once your mind is made up, you won’t be able to accept any less than the potential you see. I’ve heard it said before,

Change is the essence of life; be willing to surrender who you are for who you could become.’

Well, I can’t wait to meet her. 😊

  1. ” Since I gave myself the hero cookie for only saying it, I lost the motivation to actually complete the work.” Giiiirrrrlllll if this isn’t the truest truth. It has to do with how we raise ourselves and treat ourselves. Funny enough, this exact thought was internalized in me when I started teaching. If you reward a kid for doing the bare min, why will he want to try any harder than that? It made me look at my actions.

The biggest change I’ve been making and trying to stick to is my follow through. I had a bad habit of starting things and not finishing them. Gotta commit! ❤

    1. I had the same issue with following through! I had to get accountability partners & learn how to self motivate to keep pushing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  2. I agree. We all have so much to work on within our minds. If we don’t push past denial and learn and take the proper steps to retrain our minds those improvements will never happen.
